SAFC Hitech™ University Collaboration Program Honored as Education Initiative of the Year at 2007 EuroAsia IC Industry Awards

July 19, 2007
EuroAsia Semiconductor Award St. Louis, MO - SAFC Hitech, a division of the Sigma-Aldrich Group (Nasdaq:SIAL), today announced that its program of collaboration with universities has been named Education Initiative of the Year by EuroAsia Semiconductor magazine. The award was given to the company last night (July 18) at the annual EuroAsia IC Industry Awards held at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in San Francisco.

Commenting on the award, SAFC Hitech President Barry Leese said: “To be recognized by our customers and peers within the semiconductor industry in this field is extremely rewarding. Collaboration with our university partners has long been an integral part of our strategy and also a major success for the company. Throughout the course of such research and development projects, secondments of staff and students between SAFC Hitech and the Institutions have been made to meet project demands. The understanding and qualification of materials is central to gaining their acceptance and integration into fabrication processes. Without these partnerships, scientific progression would be extremely slow. We see collaboration across the board, with universities, equipment and device manufacturers and, ultimately, with customers as a vital element in developing the best chemistries, process technologies and integration for future generations of semiconductors.”

SAFC Hitech has a global program funding research and development within University institutions to further materials research and development and analysis. The company has collaborative partnerships with a number of institutions, including University of Liverpool, University of Bath, University College London, University of Southampton, Helsinki University of Technology (HUT) and University of Helsinki.

"EuroAsia Semiconductor is proud of the EuroAsia IC Industry Awards and the extraordinary response from the microelectronics’ industry this year," said David Ridsdale, Editor-in-Chief for EuroAsia Semiconductor magazine. “With over 21,000 votes cast, these awards remind us what is good about the microelectronic industry - the people who drive it with their technical expertise and customer orientated perspectives. The program of collaboration with educational institutions that SAFC Hitech has in place is a worthy winner of the Educational Initiative of the Year award as it encapsulates what this particular award is all about – developing and introducing a program that truly demonstrates a significant step forwards in industry standards and achievement.”
